New Ford Mondeo 2014 release date, price & specs

The new Ford Mondeo hatchback
will go on sale in late 2014
The new Ford Mondeo has been in the pipeline
for two years but we now know that the car will
finally be launched on a release date in the last
quarter of 2014, with the price yet to be officially
confirmed.
The styling of the new car brings it into line with
the look of the latest Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus
models, with the Mondeo getting the same wide
front grille, plus other updates, both cosmetic
and mechanical, to boost its popularity.
Keep reading for all you need to know about the
brand-new Ford Mondeo 2014.
New Ford Mondeo 2014 release
date & price
The new Ford Mondeo is expected to arrive by the
end of 2014 – two years after the new model was
first announced at the Detroit Motor Show in
2012. The price is unlikely to change a great deal,
but could rise slightly by a couple of thousand
pounds. The current model benefitted from a
price cut last year, but expect prices for the new
Ford Mondeo to start from around £18,000.
New Ford Mondeo engines
Customers will get a choice of petrol or diesel
engines in the 2014 Ford Mondeo, but those after
impressively low fuel and tax bills should keep
an eye out for the two new hybrid models. The
first is a conventional petrol-electric hybrid (like
the Toyota Prius), which combines a petrol
engine with an electric motor and uses the latter
to drive the car at low speeds. The Ford Mondeo
Hybrid will do up to 65mpg and emit road tax-
busting CO2 emissions of less than 99g/km.
Next is the Ford Mondeo Energi plug-in hybrid,
which can be charged by plugging the car into a
mains socket. Fuel economy is usually good on a
hybrid because they can go travel on electric
power alone - the Ford Mondeo Energi can travel
up to 20 miles on nothing but battery power, with
Ford claiming economy of more than 100mpg.
The road tax-free emissions figures are even more
impressive, as the Ford Mondeo Energi emits less
than 50g/km of CO2.
The Ford Mondeo will also get a small 1.0-litre
EcoBoost petrol engine, which despite its size
should be powerful enough for such a large car.
A 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine could also be a
possibility.
More engines should be revealed closer to
launch date, but expect 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre
Ecoboost petrol engines, plus 2.0 and 1.5-litre
TDCi diesels too.
New Ford Mondeo specs and
equipment
Each car will get a six-speed manual gearbox as
standard, while six-speed automatic gearboxes
will be optional. The new Ford Mondeo diesel will
also be available with an automatic gearbox, and
there's a possibility buyers will be able to opt for
four-wheel drive.
Ford SYNC should also be thrown in – this is an
entertainment system developed with Microsoft
and features smartphone and Wi-Fi connectivity.
New safety technology should also make the Ford
Mondeo a very safe car. Gadgets include a system
that detects tiredness, cruise control that
maintains a safe distance to the car in front, and
a warning system that alerts the driver if they
switch lanes without noticing a car in their blind
spot.
